Companion Animal Rescue & Education- CARE was created by a group of caring individuals that saw the necessity of an open-admission animal shelter in Jefferson County. Unfortunately, not all animals can be re-homed due illness/injury or safety concerns. It is CARE’s belief that humane euthanasia is a far better option than being left on the streets to fend for themselves dying of starvation, illness, being hit by a car, or becoming prey to other animals or unkind humans.
CARE’s motto ‘no animal left behind’ means we will never turn away a Jefferson County companion animal in need regardless of adoptability. By working with breed rescues and utilizing transports out of state, we pledge to never euthanize for time or space; instead euthanasia is only done on those animals that are seriously ill/injured or due to behavioral concerns, cannot be safely re-homed.
