FOSTERING

KITTENS
Every spring/summer we get an influx of mother cats and kittens coming into the shelter. These kittens can be very fragile and the shelter is a very stressful place for them to be. We ask for foster families to take in kittens and care for them until they are big enough to be adopted. In all cases, you must live in Jefferson County to foster.
FOSTER TO ADOPT
We also offer foster to adopt, meaning that kittens can be fostered until they are large enough to be spayed/neutered and then adopted. This means you can bond with your kitten before they are ready to be adopted as well as helping the shelter! In all cases, you must live in Jefferson County to foster.
DOGs & puppies
Similar to kittens, we sometimes get dogs and their puppies in the shelter. We need foster families to look after these mini-families. We care so much for our dogs, but there isn't quite anything like a home. If you can't afford to care for a dog or can't commit to the long term, then fostering is for you! In all cases, you must live in Jefferson County to foster.
INJURED OR SICK ANIMALS
Often times, we get injured animals for example dogs with heartworm or an animal that's had to lose a limb. Being in a home for their recovery process makes for a calmer environment and will help them be safe and happy as they adapt to their new life. In all cases, you must live in Jefferson County to foster.
